LearnX 2014

Melbourne, Australia

LearnX stepped up it’s impact this year, with a change to the format not only reducing the time from 2 days to 1 action packed day, but also with the inclusion of top quality keynote speakers in Layne Beachley and Pat Farmer.  Here is a summary of the highlights.

Ruth McElhone, our Learning Director, shared her experience delivering blended learning. The Master eLearning Course (MEC) is delivered completely online using an online blended learning model which uses a mix of formal and informal learning approaches. One of the important lessons Ruth learnt from delivering an online blended model is the role the facilitator plays and how it can really enrich the learning experience. The model that Ruth uses also allows each student to learn at their own pace and adheres to a more constructivist style of facilitation.  Other speakers discussed the need to upskill L&D managers and teams about eLearning and one of our courses is a perfect place to start.

Anna Ronaldo was the stand out for many sharing Santos’ experience embarking on a cultural change program to unlock performance and potential by moving away from a systems focus towards top priorities and ongoing conversations. Santos designed specific innovative eLearning solutions for a diverse range of field and office staff, some 3500 strong across regional and international borders. Proving they are worthy winners of the Platinum LearnX Award for Best Bespoke Model. Santos also picked up Platinum Best eLearning Model for the Code of Conduct program. Both awards proudly shared with B Online Learning.

Ben

Ben also provided a quick demonstration of the fantastic new features in Articulate Storyline 2 including motion paths and sliders.

Winning Articulate StorylineNext stop on the agenda – the networking drinks. Our stand turned into a Bar Lounge! The highlight for us were all the conversations we enjoyed with our clients, MEC and Articulate students (past, present and future), Articulate users and some of the other vendors. We listened to all your ideas and also appreciated your thanks!

But the day wasn’t over yet – the energetic Pat Farmer delivered the final Keynote – and what a nice guy – his accomplishments are astounding even if a little cringe worthy at times (ahh skin peeling of your face when removing a visor). His message is don’t take no for an answer, if you have a dream then determination and perseverance will get you there in the end. Reminds me of the B Online Learning story – live your dream, love your job! But that’s for another post.

A brilliant way to lead into the Awards! Ruth and Ben accepted our awards with Anna and Georgia from Santos. Music and bubbles was a fitting end to a brilliant day.

Next stop DevLearn Las Vegas 29 to 31October……
